How to Efficiently Extract Road Elements ?

-- 09 Aug 2024 --

LiDAR technology, with its high accuracy and efficiency, has been widely used in the geographic information acquisition, urban planning and intelligent transportation.

Recently, our handheld LiDAR product LiGrip H300 was tested by our customer in the UAE. Combined with a backpack and vehicle kit, and our self-developed point cloud data post-processing software, LiDAR360 MLS, the product successfully realized efficient road map element extraction and won high praise from the customer.

In the process of road element extraction, people often encounter the following difficulties:

1. Noise and Interference: Point cloud data often contains noise and interference that can come from vehicles, pedestrians, trees, etc., which can make data processing more difficult.

2. Intensity Information: Marker extraction is based on the intensity of the point cloud, if the intensity contrast of the laser itself is low or the intensity of the markers is poor due to external reasons such as material and wear and tear, it will affect the effect of data extraction.

3. Marking Type: There are various types of traffic markings (e.g., dashed lines, solid lines, arrows, text, etc.), and there are also differences in the size of each type of marking, and, e.g., left-turn and right-turn markings have the same shape, but the semantic information is not the same, so how to accurately extract the geometric information and at the same time differentiate between the semantics is also a difficult problem.

In response, GreenValley has launched the LiGrip + LiDAR360 MLS turnkey solution.

In addition to being handheld, LiGrip H300 comes with its vehicle kit, which allows it to be mounted on any vehicle to collect real-time data on city roads and the surrounding environment. Its detection range is up to 300 meters and it is perfectly adapted to dynamic environments. It also has high reliability and continues to collect data stably in extremely hot weather conditions.

LiDAR360 MLS software possesses powerful data processing capabilities, enabling rapid analysis and processing of the data collected by LiDAR. The AI model for extracting road markings based on point clouds can accurately identify and vectorize various types of road markings in different scenarios. With an intuitive user interface, customers can easily operate, view and edit extraction results in real time to ensure data accuracy and reliability.

GreenValley has always stood at the forefront of technological innovation, and continuously promoted the development and application of LiDAR technology. We believe that in the coming days, GreenValley will continue to be oriented to the user's needs, provide better solutions for more fields, and contribute more to the construction and development of smart cities.
